On the evening of 4 November 2009, HRC Utah was proud to join TransAction and the Utah Pride Center for a Wine & Cheese Gathering for board and staff of allied organizations, such as Equality Utah. The National Equality March and Rally took place in Washington, DC on 11 October 2009, also celebrated as National Coming Out Day.  The March and Rally drew over 200,000 LGBT people and supporters calling for full Equality now!  The event was funded by small donations and was underwritten by HRC Director Bruce Bastian. On 8 October 2009, over 300 volunteers and staff of HRC joined on Capitol Hill as part of the No Excuses campaign to lobby the 111th Congress, including a strong delegation from Utah.  The HRC members appealed to elected officials to co-sponsor and support important pieces of federal legislation. On 10 October 2009, over 3,000 elected officials, celebrities, HRC members and supporters of Equality gathered at the Washington Convention Center for the 13th Annual HRC National Dinner.  Guests arrived early for receptions for Major Donors and Federal Club & Corporate Sponsors and the Silent Auction, and to make it through the extra security before the doors closed for the Keynote Speaker, US President Barack Obama.
